"Chuckles for Children" - Touching Tomorrow Today

OVER 300 SUPPORTERS ENJOY COMEDY BENEFIT FOR NEW BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF PERTH AMBOY

PERTH AMBOY, NJ - Well over 300 supporters from Perth Amboy and throughout the state and region assembled into Studio 9, a Woodbridge-based nightclub, to support the newly formed Boys and Girls Clubs of Perth Amboy. A diverse mix of Perth Amboy residents and youth and representatives of the private and public sector came out to enjoy "Chuckles for Children" - Touching Tomorrow Today, the first annual comedy event for BGCPA. The event was held on Thursday, November 9th.

"As evidenced by the many contributors to tonight's event and the growing cadre of partners, the power of 'we' cannot be overstated - the power of multiple partners and individuals who work collectively toward a shared vision", stated Yvonne Lopez, Chairperson of BGCPA's Board of Directors and Vice President for Wachovia Bank, the event's primary sponsor. Additional sponsors included Provident Bank, United Health Plan, PNC Bank, Americhoice, North Fork Bank, PSE&G, Verizon, Perth Amboy Community Advisory Panel, and AMERIGROUP.

The show featured two of the comic industry's rising stars - Kyle Grooms, a Perth Amboy native whose numerous performance credits include Def Comedy Jam, Comedy Central, VH-1, and Comic View; and a guest performance from Ronald Snipes, also a Perth Amboy native and teacher at the William C. McGinnis School, a Perth Amboy-based middle school. The two additional performers included two of the more well-known and popular veterans in the comedy business - Tony Woods, who regularly performs on Comedy Central, Def Comedy Jam, and Comic View; and Rich Ramirez, a veteran of the New York City comedy circuit. "The comics brought the house down!" exclaimed Annie Ruchalski, one of the event's attendees and native of Perth Amboy.

The event exceeded fundraising and "friend-raisng" objectives. Well over $25,000 in net income was raised from corporate sponsorships, ticket and ad journal sales, and purchases from the silent auction.

"Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Perth Amboy!' said Gene Bailey, Regional Services Director for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. "We look forward to continue working with the parents, youth, and all relevant stakeholders of the City of Perth Amboy to ensure Perth Amboy kids who need us the most will be served - to ensure that the Boys and Girls Clubs of Perth Amboy is the "Positive Place for Kids"!

"Tonight, we take an all-important step forward - a step towards a better tomorrow for our kids" says Jorge "Sam" Cruz, BGCPA's Interim Chief Professional Officer. "However, there are many more steps to take. Mayor Booker recently asked Newark residents an important question - 'Will you stand with me?' We ask a similar question with a slight twist - 'Will you step with us'?"
