CHEVRON CONTRIBUTES $3,000 GRANT TO BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF PERTH AMBOY




PERTH AMBOY, NJ - Chevron Corporation has awarded the newly established Boys & Girls Clubs of Perth Amboy (BGCPA) with a $3,000 grant. PERTH AMBOY, NJ - Chevron Corporation has awarded the newly established Boys & Girls Clubs of Perth Amboy (BGCPA) with a $3,000 grant.

"As a long-time corporate resident in the City of Perth Amboy, we feel a strong sense of connection to the kids, families, and the overall community of Perth Amboy," says Kevin McMahon, Refinery Manager for the Chevron's Perth Amboy refinery. "This contribution is an extension of this connection, and our belief in the mission of Boys and Girls Clubs of Perth Amboy".

Chevron's Perth Amboy asphalt plant has operated since 1948. While the plant's primary product is asphalt, it also produces distillate used in home heating oil, fuel oil and other petroleum products sold to refiners and chemical manufacturers for further processing. The facility occupies approximately 250 acres in Perth Amboy with a small parcel of property in Woodbridge Township. Important facts:

  • "Single largest taxpayer in the city ($3.3 million in 2006)
  • "Employs 70 full-time Chevron personnel and various contract personnel
  • "Contributes to local fire and safety departments, community organizations and charities
  • "Protects the safety and health of people and the environment
  • "Goal is to be recognized and admired worldwide for safety, health and environmental excellence
  • "Participates with Chemtura, Kinder Morgan, and Perth Amboy neighbors in a Community Advisory Panel to engage the community in an open dialogue about facility operations and community concerns
  • "Developed and maintains a long-range plan for the remediation and redevelopment of those sections of the site that are no longer needed for asphalt production.
  • "Approximately 95 acres have been remediated and sold as part of a Perth Amboy redevelopment project.

Created by the Jewish Renaissance Foundation, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Perth Amboy (BGCPA) is a provisional member affiliate of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), and plays a critical role in further expanding the BGCA movement. Serving Perth Amboy youth ages 6-21, BGCPA will establish youth facilities and programs designed solely for youth.
